ABOUT OUR CLUB

Bideford Rifle Club is probably typical of many clubs all over the
country. We were formed some time before the Second World War-
although little remains of any documented evidence of our early years.
We have a membership of about forty shooters, with a wide range of
ages and abilities, and we shoot .22 prone rifle at 25-yards, .177 air
rifle and air pistol at 10 metres during the winter months and .22 prone
rifle at 50-metres during the summer season. We have also started a
Bench Rest section, which is gaining interest, and we shall be
entering teams in leagues for this discipline from 2008

We welcome potential new members and introduce them to the sport
by running a structured coaching programme, which enables us to
give them the attention and help they need from the start, and thishas
proved very enjoyable and successful to students and coaches over
 the last  years.

We also host Open Evenings for local groups such as Rotary and the
Golf Club, which are always very sociable occasions and also help to
premote our club and our sport.  We enjoy a very good relationship
with the local press who regularly print our reports- indeed three of thelocal papers came to one of our Open Evenings to try shooting for
themselves and gave us excellent write-ups afterwards.

Some of our members have been or are of international standard and
we have a very good representation in the County teams every year,
but there are also many of our members who only shoot local leagues
or even no competitions at all - the common factor is the enjoyment we all get out of the sport by belonging to a friendly enthusiastic club.

The joy of our sport is that it's non gender specific, male and female
can compete as equal and almost, if not all disabilities can also be
catered for and also shoot along side the best of the rest.
Not many sports, if any can boast that!
